WHO WE ARE

Core Values to Believe In

The core values at Corlears School are the guiding principles that shape how we communicate and collaborate as a community. By naming what we value, we are committing to what we believe is at the core of our school’s mission.

We’re building a school and a community where children learn to see things from multiple perspectives and think about diverse life experiences. With its values at the core, Corlears students cultivate curiosity about people, compassion for humanity, and grow to take responsibility and courageous actions to create communities of belonging.

Corlears School Core Values

With the guidance of expert faculty working in partnership with our Assistant Head of School and Director of Equity and Inclusion, Corlears students develop positive identities, celebrate differences, advocate for justice, and take action.

Conversations about identity, race, and social justice are integrated into daily school life here; in our classrooms, in our play areas, at every community event, we aim to create a community of belonging.

AFFORDING CORLEARS

Tuition Equity and Accessibility Model (TEAM)

Corlears is a leader in the prioritization of socioeconomic diversity and removing barriers to entry for the diverse community of young children in NYC, consistently dedicating 25–30% of gross tuition revenue toward what we used to refer to as financial aid; this is well above the independent school norm, especially for the early childhood and elementary years.

In the 2022–23 school year, Corlears introduced the Tuition Equity and Accessibility Model (TEAM), changing the paradigm from financial aid to equitable tuition level setting for all families. The TEAM is one of the many ways Corlears School demonstrates its commitment to DEIB, ensuring equity in our school all the way down to the tuition-setting structure.

Reviews from Corlears Families

Regina S.Corlears Parent
Corlears is more than a school, it’s a community of family and friends that considers equity and inclusion as core pieces to learning and or the exchange of ideas and information. It has provided both my children with academic readiness, an understanding of collective responsibility and the confidence to share and welcome solutions for “why.”

“Corlears has been a great school for our son and our family. Our son has learned to be a flexible thinker which has helped him excel in all subjects, and especially math. The school also instills its students with a strong sense of self, as well as an understanding of their community-members and the world at large.”

“Corlears is a warm, special environment that’s hard to find in type-A NYC. If you want a kid who feels happy and secure and confident, then this is the school for you.

"We absolutely love Corlears. Our children are thrilled to go to school every day, and they are learning and growing so much! It is amazing how well the school balances academic rigor with a progressive method of teaching, to ensure the kids all love learning and therefore are even more likely to achieve academic success. The faculty are gifted and incredibly invested in all of the children/families."

“The intimate setting of the school feels like a close-knit community. My daughter is extremely happy with the teachers and friends that she has made. Corlears students are confident, happy, critical thinkers that will make their mark on the world.

“Our children have thrived at Corlears. Since the school only serves elementary ages there is a real purity there. Our children have become such confident learners and now are real leaders.”
